Hello to another Monday.
I really don't have a problem with Monday, especially this Monday. Usually I work at the restaurant on Monday nights, but rehearsals have been nuts so I changed my availability to only work days and bam-stress relieved! So, long story short- I have today off! I have two rehearsals later in the day but other than that I am just listening to music (MIley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz), cleaning, and basically just taking some me time.
This week was a little bit crazy with rehearsals and some weird stuff happening in my personal life (we all know how that goes, right?) But, despite the madness, there were some really cool things that happened this week. I went to The Uptown Underground and saw the Kiss Kiss Cabaret. Beforehand my friend and I went to a little sushi place across the street that had a really groovy design: projections on big screens acting as a light source, big red candle-lit booths, and vines stretching across bubbly blue textured walls...I felt like I was underwater! I had a martini called Violet Fog or something ominous like that, It had black cherry vodka, violet liquer, and went down easy like a melted popsicle. It was my first time at a cabaret like this besides Beast Women. The stage had an amazing light plot with lights from all sides and angles, and big red velvet curtains ready to be pulled back to reveal the next vixen to perform for the audience, who were eating out of the palm of her hand. If anyone is looking for a fun night out at a show that comes with an energetic crowd, go to Kiss Kiss Cabaret!
Well, I think I had better go for now, Here are some bits and pieces from my week. I hope this Monday is a grand one for you all!
Hello again everyone, and Happy New Year!
What did everyone do with their New Year?
The theatre that I work at had a party, so I ended up spending the night dancing and eating with some of my favorite people!
There was a crafts table that I was running for any kids that happened to come to the party (I was meant to keep them occupied and give them a fun thing to do while their parents made merry.) Well, can you guess how that went? Eh, I'll just tell you. Only two kiddos came and I ended up sitting at the craft table just crafting away on my own the majority of the evening because I was enjoying myself so much! But I made some fun little things that make me happy to look at.
At the beginning of the night I didn't feel like dressing up, but I finally felt inspired and donned a strapless little black dress that I covered with a large purple fuzzy overcoat. I started to feel so groovy and goofy and ready to bring in the new year and say "see ya!" to the old one. The only thing that could make it better was remembering the giant purple sparkly bow headband that someone gave me at a Miley Cyrus/Flaming Lips concert. So, that was the ensemble! Sometimes dressing in a fun way makes me feel that life IS just as fun and silly as I imagine it to be. I've got to remember that while lots of people may act like things are so serious and that people are meant to compose themselves a certain way, I don't have to follow these rules or beliefs at all. I can see them, smile, and know that I am going to bed at night knowing that the smile I have is a real one.
I have a few resolutions, too!
1. Complain Less
2. Say No More Often
(the second one is becasue I feel like I often over commit myself, and I want to start doing things that I am more passionate about. I'm sure you understand, right ol chap? )
Anywho, dear reader, I hope 2017 brings barrels of good books, laughter with friends AND strangers, awkward eye contact, and food to fill your guts and dreams.
My week in New Mexico was supposed to be up today, I was supposed to head off on a big hunk of metal flying through the sky with way too many books and a new teddy bear named Bernie. Mom, Dad, and I drove to the airport, getting our favorite burritos on the way. I wasn't feeling too well though and didn't end up eating the whole thing.
When we got to the airport it was a bit congested. After finally getting to the kiosk and putting in my confirmation number, I found that my first flight had been delayed, causing me to have to miss my connection flight. I could either fly to denver and stay in a hotel there or I could stay another night at home and fly out tomorrow. As much as I love hotels, I decided that I would rather stay at home an extra night. So here I sit on a couch at my parents house, eating pizza and watching shitty reality TV with my younger sister. What more could I ask for?
This trip was filled with so much love! My family is the most accepting, artistic, goofy group of people and I am so happy that they are my tribe. Also, I got to see some of my closest friends (including my best friend and her daughter-who I obviously consider my niece), I got to spend a lot of time with my family, I got to drive again -which I have missed dearly, and I got to relax a bit before a month of craziness begins. My trip was also filled with... *du du-du-du!!* CATS! My parents have 6 indoor/outdoor cats (the beauty of living in the country).
The Names Of The Cats
Bubba (Boobenile, Hollywood Cutie, Boob)
Chenny Wen Wen (Chenny, Chenners, Chenaren)
Sirius Black (Siri)
Flapjack (Flap, Flappy, FlappyWappy)
Coufax (Cowie, Cow Bell)
Apollo (Apopo, Paulo)
We have had all of these cats for years, and I swear we have the best cats...better than yours probably are (ha!). Flapjack is my little black cat and she is so dang lovable it will make you want to pee out of your bellybutton.
Anyways, guess I had better wrap this up. Until next time...
ps-these photos are from the trip I just took, so they are all current. Most of them are of my sisters and I
Well hello! And Merry Christmas!
I couldn't think of a more appropriate first blog post than one about the holidays.
Seeing as I currently live in Chicago, I was not able to spend turkey day with my family, so I am extra glad to be able to be here for Christmas! I grew up on the border of New Mexico and Colorado...are you picturing it? Beautiful mountains and greenery with a dash of sand thrown in and rivers running through to wrap it all up? Yeah, that's where I'm from. I do like the city, and know that it is where I am meant to be for now, but at heart I am really just a mountain girl looking for a hill to climb or some mud to roll around in.
I flew in to Colorado yesterday and have a WHOLE WEEK here which doesn't feel like it's enough time but will have to suffice because it is a much needed trip right now. I am very close with my two sisters and my parents, so getting to actually see them and hug them and kick them in the booty is really nice.
Today I woke up and hung out with my fam and my cats for a bit. I then went with my best friend of 10 years to eat and have our nails done and laugh way too hard about the bizarreness of life. GET THIS- someone has created a fake Instagram account pretending to be me! They have been posting pics of me acting as me since October...weirdos.
It is quite chilly here now and not as lovely as it is in the summer or spring. Or maybe it is just a different kind of lovely. Here are a few photos I've taken on trips home (not all are recent) to give you an idea of where I come from. Hope you all enjoy!
